Copies of enamels from the Stations of the Cross

Four enameled copper plates representing the Stations of the Cross were stolen from the church. The Conservation of Religious and Civil Works of Art, City of Paris, in collaboration with the parish, decided to have exact copies made.
The City of Paris commissioned Cecile Charpentier to execute the works, and the parish raised the funds needed to cover the costs.

The following Stations were reconstructed:

8. Jesus meets the women of Jerusalem who weep.
9. Jesus falls the third time.
10. Jesus is stripped of his clothes.
14. The body of Jesus is buried.

Step 1

The installation of 3 preparatory drawings on new plates modeled in polyethurane.

The copies were made from black and white photographs of the originals.

Step 2

Step 3

Also worked on the project:
- Adriana Blendea (painter and paint-layer restorer),

The 4: copies

The 4 copies with the black and white photos and small discs (also restored) indicating the number of each Station.

The recreated copper plates and their frames were made out of a polyurethane resin and mixed with bronze powder for the supports and framework using an acrylic resin for the enamels.

1. The recreated enamels next to an original on an easel.
2. Nicolas Imbert hanging the enamels on the columns of the nave.
