Restoration of a series of portraits

Cecile Charpentier made several visits to Spain in 2008 and 2009 to restore portraits that had been damaged by moisture.

Work performed on the support

- Cleaning the back of the canvas
- Cleaning the chassis
- Flattening out the painting
- Tightening the canvas
- Applying an anti-xylophage product to the chassis
- Returning the canvas to its frame
- Placing removable clamps
- Stapling a protective non-woven polyester on the frame behind the canvas

Work performed on the paint layer

- Overall refixing of the paint layer especially in the lower section
- Cleaning the surface
- Reducing the varnish
- Filling in lacunae
- Reintegrating the paint layer
- Reconstructing the large lacuna
- Harmonizing the varnish of the whole painting
