Condition Report

Example of an expertise for a public institution

Petit Palais in Paris

Museum of Fine Arts of the City of Paris

Le Petit Palais collection includes works from ancient times to the 20th century: paintings, sculptures, art objects and furniture. This Museum is a complement to the Louvre and Orsay Museums.

From January 2001 to June 2005, the Petit Palais was closed for renovation, and the works were stored at another location for 5 years. During the renovation new exhibition spaces were created on the ground floor (a total of 22,000m2), the reserves were then moved to the basement.
During the reinstallation of the paintings in the remodeled rooms, a team of conservators carried out a presentation overhaul for the collection of paintings and wrote up condition reports for each work. More than 600 works were analyzed and identified.

This expertise was conducted with a team of restorers in co-contracting. Le Petit Palais reopened its doors to the public December 10, 2005.
